The Prambergers were also considered to be even finer pianos. In my opinion these were the best Young Changs. Most of the G models were all built in Korea. This caused a real problem for tuners in Memphis and other cities. A legal issue also resulted in causing YC parts to not be available for a period of time. This resulted in Chang not being able to use the Pramberger name and Samick not being able to use the design. But Joseph Pramberger died in 2003 and his estate sold the Pramberger name to Samick.

They also had started making the Pramberger Series pianos at the Incheon plant in 2001. Many YC's for at least a 20 year period were sold to churches, schools and individuals.Īlso in the late 1980's and early 1990's Young Chang made guitars for Fender, but had to stop because of a licensing issue. Partly because the local dealer representing YC was a very aggressive promoter of this instrument. I know that in the 80's and 90's in the Memphis, Tn area Young Chang was one of the largest selling instruments. At that time Chang projected that they would build 200,000 pianos a year in this Chinese factory. This created a flow of imports that were built cheaper than those built in Korea. Young Chang built one of the largest piano factories in history in 1996 in Tianjin, China. After this more imports were coming into the US, although some may have come in between 19. A second plant was built in 1976 and in 1979 Young Chang America was started. Great to play, lovely and even tone and feel throughout the registers.
